Advancing Development Goals International Contest for students - Geneva Challenge

Under the patronage of Mr Kofi Annan

The initiative for this international contest for students, designed to stimulate the debate on the future of the global development agenda, comes from Ambassador Jenö Staehelin who also generously supported the realisation of the project.

The contest calls for interdisciplinary projects by teams of three to five master students from all over the world. Each team must address a development challenge, submitting a project proposal which develops a sturdy academic analysis and proposes a creative solution. The projects must relate to a theme, which changes every year. A jury chaired by Ambassador Staehelin and composed of leading figures selects the three best projects, whose teams are then invited to present and defend at the Institute. The winning team receives a prize amounting to CHF 10’000.-, the second a prize of CHF 5’000.- and the third a prize of CHF 2’500.- The academic supervision of the contest is under the responsibility of Professor Martina Viarengo, Professor Ravinder Bhavnani and Professor Filipe Calvão.
