The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies has been accredited by the Swiss government since 2009 and, consequently, is recognised both at the national level and internationally.

Specialising in post-graduate education with a focus on the study of world affairs, with a particular emphasis on the cross-cutting fields of international relations and development issues, the Institute awards master and doctoral degrees in the main social science disciplines (anthropology, economics, history, political science, sociology) and in international law.

The Institute is a member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA) and the Association of Leading European Universities (Europaeum), as well as other associations.

The Institute maintains a worldwide network of academic partners. It has also established privileged partnerships with leading institutions, with whom it runs joint programmes and dual degree programmes.

The Institute is a private foundation, registered under Swiss law as a public interest organisation.
