Important: Academic policy of the Institute is defined in the study regulations and internal guidelines of each programme.

Academic Governance

Decision-making bodies of the Institute consist of:

  • The Direction of Studies (director of studies, academic advisor);
  • The Academic Committee (director, vice-director, director of studies, heads of departments and interdisciplinary programmes, director of executive education);
  • The College of Professors (all professors of the Institute);
  • The College of Teachers (all professors and lecturers of the Institute).

The academic reforms or decisions are carried out by the Director of Studies and the Direction, which submit them to the academic committee and to the colleges professors and teachers. The Director of Studies handles all matters and issues from the time of admission through the successful completion of the degree.

Evaluation and ECTS credits

Evaluation is based on a grading system ranging from 1 to 6 with quarter point increments, or the mention pass or fail. The thesis awards the following distinction: Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, Summa Cum Laude, Summa Cum Laude with congratulations.

An act of plagiarism as well as any attempt of cheating shall lead to sanction that may go as far as elimination from the Institute.

Language Policy of the Institute

The official working languages of the Institute are English and French. All students are expected to have a working knowledge of English and at least a passive knowledge of French.

Students and professors may choose to express themselves, orally and in writing, in either language.

Appeals

A student may appeal against any academic decision he or she considers unreasonable or unfair. Opposition proceedings must follow the procedures laid down by RIO. After proper notification form to the Directorate of the Institute, the opposition is examined by the Opposition Board (Director of Studies, professors, student association representative) who delivers a notice to the director's intention . If the original decision is confirmed, the student has the opportunity to appeal to the administrative court.

Teaching Evaluation

A few weeks prior to the end of the semester, students will have the opportunity to evaluate the courses they have taken using questionnaires sent by Email. The objective of this survey is to provide faculty members with feedbacks on their courses, including strengths and areas where there is room for improvement. The academic authorities will also consider it when the Faculty contracts will be renewed.
