Global South Doctoral Workshop

Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, from 23 to 27 October 2017

 

 

The Global South Workshop is an opportunity for doctoral students from universities in southern developing countries to participate to a week of discussion of their thesis with professors and PhD students of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies and from a partner university of the network. This program aims to develop intellectual exchanges and networking between young scholars from the South (see Testimonials). The workshop is held in English.

A few seats are available for PhD candidates from the Graduate Institute, Geneva.

Programme

The 2017 workshop is organised jointly by the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva and the Instituto de Relações Internacionais at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro.

The workshop will give selected participants the opportunity to present and discuss their research in a seminar format.

The workshop will take place from Monday to Friday (9 am to 5 pm).

  • Each participant will be expected to present his/her paper and address the comments of discussants in 15 minutes.
  • Discussants will have 10 minutes to react to the presentation and comments.
  • Faculty and participants will discuss the research and advise the participant (20 minutes).

Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro

The Graduate Institute, Geneva has developed a strong academic partnership with PUC Rio.  The bilateral co-operation agreement in place provides opportunities for students to participate in an exchange programme for 1 or 2 semesters. A new joint degree programme has also been established within the scope of this partnership.
